Being a School Bus Driver

Job Description:

Employment on days when busing of students is required.
Shift to be arranged in consultation with the Manager of Transportation.


Grade Ten plus a valid B.C. Class 2 Driver’s License with air endorsement.
One year’s experience in professional driving and working with students.
Conscientious driver with ability to transport students safely and efficiently.
Ability to maintain discipline within the school bus.
Capable of changing wheels and installing tire chains under adverse conditions
Sufficient mechanical knowledge to carry out basic trouble-shooting and advise of repairs required.
Demonstrated sound judgment required for making driving decisions under varying road conditions and dealing with student behaviour.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Transport students safely and efficiently.
Maintain discipline within school bus.
Perform minor first aid and complete forms
Perform pre and post trip inspections and per government regulations
Clean and fuel bus as required.
Maintain all necessary paperwork and records.
Install chains with regards to safety of students and bus.
